Super delicious Caprese Burger featuring fresh mozzarella, basil, and tomatoes. Like you probably don’t need to read the recipe.

Make it Keto, low carb, or more diabetic friendly by not using a bun at all. It’s still super delicious.
You can also opt to use garlic bread as a bun.
Caprese Burger
Ingredients
- 6 Fresh Ground Beef Patties
- 6 Ciabatta Buns
- 2 large tomatoes
- 1 chunk of FRESH Mozzarella
- 1 pack of Fresh Basil Leaves
- Pesto Sauce
- Weber Roasted Garlic and Herb Seasoning
Instructions
- Place beef patties in large skillet and cook over medium – low heat. Douse the top side with Garlic and Herb seasoning. Flip, and douse with Garlic and Herb Seasoning. About 1-2 TBSP of seasoning all together.
- Cook for about 15 minutes flipping every 3 minutes — or cook to desired meat temperature. I flip them a lot to make sure they don’t burn.
- Slice tomato and mozzarella into thick slices, enough for each burger.
- Once the beef patties finish cooking, layer a cheeseburger with bun, meat, tomato, 2 – 3 basil leaves, and some pesto sauce.
Notes
Where did I get this recipe?
Well, I made it up. I’m obsessed with Caprese. There’s no rehab for it, and it doesn’t help that it’s kind of healthy. I’ve made Caprese everything. The Caprese Salad, Bruschetta Caprese, Caprese Pizza, Caprese Pasta Salad… Caprese Burger.
One time I paid $10 for a “salad” at this Chef’s restaurant, and it was just a tomato sliced in thirds, with a mozzarella slice and a basil leaf in between each. Then he put a piece of ginger on top. Well, I also got his filet mignon that was so tender, I could cut it with a fork.
And that might of been the basis of this because filet mignon / red meat + Caprese …
I get that hamburger is not a filet mignon at all. But damn is this sammich a good sammich.
How to Make the Caprese Burger
Like really you just make a hamburger and add a thick tomato slice, a couple basil leaves, and a thick fresh mozzarella slice. Use pesto as a condiment. Put it on some fancy bread like Ciabatta Buns. Or best bread to go with it, Garlic Bread.
The Hamburger
I like to make life easier, so I get the frozen hamburger patties and I season it with Garlic Salt. I do like Weber seasoning, and because this is more of an Italian Burger, I generally use their Roasted Garlic and Herb seasoning; however, I usually use their Chicago Steak seasoning on everything red meat (and anything that goes with red meat).
The frozen patties I usually get are 1/3 pound patties and there’s usually 6 in a box. I really refuse to eat a hamburger that is cheaper than that.
If I were to go extra, I might use regular fresh ground beef and add chopped onions, minced garlic, and chopped basil to it and mash that up and then make patties.
The Cheese
It’s pretty important you use Fresh Mozzarella.

It’s not that important, but it really does make a huge difference in texture, taste, and the ability to squish the sandwich down to fit your mouth.
Bread
So I frequently use Ciabatta Bread for my Caprese Burger, but I’ve also been known to grab a pack of that Texas Toast Garlic Toast in the frozen food section and use that instead.
If you wanted to go Low Carb or Keto, you could just omit the starchy container we call bread all together and eat it with a fork.
Condiments
I prefer to top this with some Pesto. It’s easy. But, I have a kid who seemingly is allergic to it, but I think I keep buying the same brand that has pine nuts in it, so another option is to use some Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar, or you could mix Italian dressing with some mayo.
What to serve with?
I generally do not make a side dish with this because in my mind, it’s a salad on a burger, so it’s like combining the main dish and the side dish as one.
I love eating this with actual Caprese Salad on the side. You can easily make that by chopping a tomato, cutting some cheese slices into cubes, and chopping the fresh basil (which I generally roll it up like a blunt, and then slice it).
If you do that, make sure you buy enough of those ingredients.
Other options include
- Deep fried mozzarella sticks
- Garlic and Herb Potatoes
- Garlic and Herb Rice
- Tuscan Roast Asparagus
- Canned Minestrone Soup
Less classy options include
- Totino’s pizza rolls
- $1 pasta sides
- Mac n Cheese (like Daiya Foods – Cheezy Mac – Four Cheese With Herbs)
