Ingredients
- 4 Burger Patties

- 4 Mozzarella Cheese Slices
- 1/2 Jar of Red Peppers
Instructions
- [mv_schema_meta name="Cook the Hamburger"] Heat up skillet to medium high heat. Season both sides of the burger and cook on skillet for 2 to 3 minutes. Flip and finish cooking until desired doneness. Reduce heat to low. Add a slice of mozzarella cheese to the top and let cook until cheese starts to melt.
- [mv_schema_meta name="Heat up Garlic Bread"] Place garlic toast into a Toaster Oven, Oven or Air Fryer, and cook according to instructions. My ideal aim is for slightly crispy edges and soft center.
- [mv_schema_meta name="Make the Burger Sammich"] Stack a piece of garlic toast, burger, and top with some red peppers and another piece of garlic toast. If you wanted, you could add a little marinara sauce, but it's unnecessary.
Notes
Where did I get this recipe?
The Hill House has a recipe called the Hilltalian Burger, and this is my copycat of it. It’s a small “pizzeria” for patrons 21 and over nestled in a graveyard alongside a hill somewhere here in West Virginia. I used to go in almost weekly for this burger and their cheese fries. But since I’ve had kids, and the 21 PLUS thing being a thing, welp, I guess I’ll just make my own then.
4 Ingredients for Italian Burger

Less than 5 ingredients, this easy 4 ingredient recipe calls for…
- Texas Garlic Toast
- Burgers
- Mozzarella
- Jar of Red Peppers
Total Grocery Spend: $15.34
Exact Ingredients I use! No affiliate.
Keep in mind that some packages of Texas Garlic Toast (like the kind my Dollar General carries) only has 6 slices of bread in it instead of 8.
3 Easy Step Process

Really all you have to do is fry the burgers, toast the garlic toast, and stack it with some red pepper.
But to get into more detail…
- I like to use the frozen burgers and pan fry. I do this frozen but you can cover a side with garlic salt, and place on a heated medium high heat skillet.
- I love my electric skillet.
- Add garlic salt to the other side.
- Cook until “seared” or basically until you start burning the bottom half, and then flip.
- At this point go ahead and heat up garlic toast in the toaster over, air fryer, whatevs.
- Keep flipping until burgers are done, but ideally you only need that one flip.
- Then add some mozzarella to the top of the burgers and let melt. Turn off heat somewhere through that.
- Stack the burger on garlic toast with a red pepper.
Chef Gordan Ramsey has a video on making the perfect burger in a pan, and he says, “The secret here is not to overdo it.” I feel like I less did it than he did. As a mom, I am not going to grind my own meat; however, it might be healthier that way.

Make it a Keto Recipe & Diabetic Considerations
Make this recipe Keto by substituting garlic toast with Keto Bread, and buttering the bread, sprinkling some Himalayan Garlic Salt on it, and then toasting it or baking it.
Diabetic Diets can also consider WHOLE grain wheat bread as an option prepared like mentioned above.
One slice of the Texas Toast has 16 grams of carbs, so if this was the bulk of your carb count for the day, you could get away with stacking the burger on one slice of garlic toast instead of two.
It is also good without bread at all. Just the burger and some red peppers. If you go this route, I highly suggest plopping a teaspoon of garlic on the skillet you fry the burgers in.
Serve this Fancy Burger with Delicious Side Ideas…

Like I said earlier, I used to get this at the Hill House with their Cheese Fries, so it’s no wonder that I do like to sometimes serve this with cheese fries. Until the day I post that recipe, you want to use steak fries, cover with Cheddar, add bacon bits and serve with ranch and sour cream.
Another great side dish that goes well with this burger is Caprese Salad, any potato chip, but you know, sometimes it’s fine by itself.
